George Vanatta Bassett, Jr.

George Vanatta Bassett, Jr., age 86, passed away on March 8, 2024, in Fort Mill, SC. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on December 18, 1937 to George Vanatta Bassett Sr., and Henrietta Bertha Schmidt. George is survived by his wife Marcia Heald Bassett, his son Craig Bassett, his brother Bob Bassett, stepson Matthew McGlothlin, stepdaughter Megan Zepp, her husband Jeff Zepp, and grandson Mason Zepp.

George was preceded in death by his brother Richard (Dick) Bassett, brother John (Jack) Bassett, sister Patricia Bassett, father George Vanatta Bassett, Sr., and mother Henrietta Bertha Schmidt.

He was an extremely good-natured, funny, and caring gentleman who opened his heart and home to many people. He loved to share stories of his adventures filled with a cast of eclectic friends. George had a passion for golf, weather, technology and reading.

George served in the Air Force and had a successful career at various radio and tv stations, including WGPA AM-FM in Bethlehem, PA, WSVA AM-FM-TV in Harrisonburg, VA, and WDBJ-TV in Roanoke, VA. He held various roles during his time at WDBJ, including staff announcer, on-air weatherman, high school quiz show host, creative copywriter, graphic director, operations manager, local sales manager and Director of Sales and Marketing.

As per George's request no funeral or memorial service will be held. George will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
