Gomer Holestin
Mr. Gomer Denton Holestin, age 94, of Covington, died Friday, September 6, 2024 at his residence.
Mr. Holestin was born November 18, 1929 in Cove Creek, WV, the son of the late Thomas Lewis Holestin and Lena Gundy Holestin. During his working career, he was employed as a logger, a forest ranger, a truck driver and worked construction for Robertson-Filer Construction Company during the building of Interstate-64. He attended the Salvation Army Church.
Mr. Holestin is survived by his sons, Greg A. Holestin and wife, Judy of Covington, Barry E. Holestin and wife, Tammy of Covington, Gary W. Holestin and wife, Sandra of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Anthony D. Holestin and wife, Natalie of Covington, Terry L. Holestin and wife, Jennifer of Covington; his daughters, Sandy Holestin Rothwell of Covington and Sharon Holestin Givens and husband, Mike of Covington; sixteen grandchildren; fifty great- great grandchildren; five great- great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth R. Holestin of North Carolina.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Holestin was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Holestin Allard; two granddaughters; his former wife and mother of his children, Effie Craft Holestin; a son-in-law, Bryan Kent Rothwell; two brothers, Raymond Lewis Holestin and Howard Holestin; a sister, Pauline Sparks; and a brother-in-law, Paul Sparks.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Carl "Shorty" Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow in Fletcher Chapel Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Gibson, Shawn Phillips, Adam Gibson, Chris Phillips and Barry Holestin, Jr. Alternate pallbearers will be Brandon Phillips, Kameron Phillips, Cody Via, Jacob Holestin and Ben Phillips.
The family will receive friends on Monday afternoon from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home and at other times, at the residence, 522 N. Rockbridge Avenue, Covington.
