Gorden Lee Wingfield
Gorden Lee Wingfield, 82, of Martinsville, Virginia, entered his heavenly rest on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. He was born on January 18, 1943, in Martinsville to the late John Harvey Wingfield and Julia Ann Trent Wingfield.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Kimberly Osbourne Wingfield; and his brothers, Charles Wingfield and William Wingfield.
Gorden was truly one of a kind—a bold, loving, and unforgettable soul who left a legacy of love and kindness everywhere he went. As a proud Navy veteran and lifelong truck driver, he served his country with honor and spent his days working hard with both his hands and his heart. He was a natural entrepreneur and a man of many talents who always found a way to provide and care for those he loved. Known for his signature overalls, sharp wit, and even sharper tongue, Gorden could always be counted on to speak his mind and tell it like it was.
His home, affectionately known as “Gorden’s Ark,” was a living zoo filled with exotic animals, laughter, and the joy of farming which he dearly loved. But, above all else, his greatest pride was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy. Whether he was watching squirrels scurrying or hummingbirds fluttering by, Gorden found beauty in life’s quiet moments. His spirit, strength, and legacy live on in every story told, every lesson passed down, and every memory shared by those who loved him most.
He is survived by a host of loved ones who will honor his memory, including his daughters, April Dunsford, Brenda Penn (Sean), Christy Spencer (Steve); his sons, Gorden Scott Wingfield and John Matthew Wingfield; grandchildren, Brandon Spencer (Susan), Stephen Spencer (Megan), Tiffany Spencer (Brandon), Rontae Dodson (Mandi), Hunter Wingfield, Samantha Lambeth, Heather Sizemore (Adam), Gorden Scott Wingfield, Jr. (Jamie), Shelisa Penn, Briana Moore (Jay); 19 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Iris Horton.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 3:00 pm at Wright Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Samuel Leonard officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the Martinsville & Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
