Harlan Murrain Barr

April 9, 1936 - February 16, 2025

Harlan Murrain “Casey” Barr Sr., age 88, of Madison Heights, Virginia, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025.

Born on April 9, 1936, in Moorefield, West Virginia, Casey was the son of the late Clifton Murrain Barr and Nina Lawson Riggleman Barr.

In addition to his parents, Casey was preceded in death by two brothers, Meryl and Herman Barr, a daughter, Debbie Barr, three grandchildren—Angel Lowery, Tara Jones, and Zachary Collett and one great-grandchild, Christian Lowery.

Casey is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Geneva Barr of Madison Heights; his sister, Bonnie Barr of Moorefield, WV; and five children: Casey Barr Jr. (Donna) of Old Fields, WV, Vicki Jones of Moorefield, WV, Joyce Barr of Old Fields, WV, Tim Collett (Kelly) of Pineville, KY, and Jonathan Hofer of Lampasas, TX. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished deeply.

A proud 1957 graduate of Moorefield High School, Casey began his career with Weyerhauser Corp. in Baltimore, MD, where he met his future wife, Geneva. After their marriage, Casey was transferred to the Lynchburg area, where he worked for over 25 years before retiring. Following retirement, Casey sought to stay active and ran a produce stand on Route 130 for several years. Outside of work, he found joy in the great outdoors—whether hunting, fishing, or using his woodworking skills to build birdhouses. His love for his family and his faith in God were central to his life. He and Geneva were devoted members of Life Ministries, Church of God of Prophecy in Lynchburg.

A service celebrating Casey's life and faith will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Whitten Monelison Chapel, with Pastor Jonathan Gillette and Pastor Gary Vernon officiating. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the funeral home, and for one hour prior to the service.

Casey will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his legacy of love, faith, and service to others will live on forever.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the needs of the family. Contributions for Geneva may be mailed to P.O. Box 489, Lynchburg, VA 24505.
