Harold Parks Smith

Harold Parks “Parkie” Smith, 76 of Bedford passed away Sunday, June 29, 2025 at Oakwood Health & Rehab.  He was born September 22, 1948 in Bedford, a son of the late David Parks Smith and Arlene Virginia Creasy Smith.

Parkie was retired from Piedmont Label/Smyth Co. as job coordinator/plate maker and was a past state director of Dixie Boys Baseball, past board member of Little Town Players, a member of the PT Cruiser Club and was currently President of Liberty Academy Alumni Association. He also worked with the Citty Ford sponsored punt, pass and kick program and for many years did the play by play broadcast of Dixie Youth Baseball for WBLT as well as serving as their Sunday morning DJ.  Parkie enjoyed playing music at Friday night jam sessions at different locations.

He is survived by his brother, Michael D. “Smitty” Smith & wife, Kelly; nephews, Raymond, Thomas, Michael & Cooper; his aunt, Barbara Creasy as well as numerous cousins.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Hickory Grove Community Church, c/o Nancy Adams, 2607 Triggs Road, Bedford, VA 24523. 

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor William Clark officiating.  Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.   The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 until 7 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
