Harry Ellington McCoy IV July 5, 1987 - August 23, 2025 Harry E. McCoy IV, better known as Bo by all who knew and loved him, passed away at his family home in Blacksburg on Saturday August 23, 2025. Bo is survived by his parents Kate Wallace McCoy and Harry E. McCoy III of Blacksburg, his sister and the light of his life Corinne S. McCoy of Christiansburg, his Uncle Ches (George L. Wallace III), and by aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by his dearest friends and supporters Bayley Alphin and her family, Sylvia Yoncich and her family, Matt Hutchens and his family, and Angie West and her family. Bo is already missed by his much loved dogs, Elena and Tucker, his horse Misty, and many other canines, equines and one cute little donkey named Pip. Bo was preceded in death by his loving grandparents Patty and George Wallace of Martinsville, VA and Martha Lee and Harry McCoy of Norfolk, VA. Bo completed his education in the Montgomery County Public Schools system, ran a small recycling business for many years, and served others in countless ways every day of his life. Bo was a miraculous, magnetic, never to be forgotten life force. He was the most loving son, brother, and grandson, and was a very compassionate and caring friend and neighbor. His smile lit up any room, he was a skilled hug facilitator, a lover of life, a joyful musician, a helper and an inspiration to many who knew him. As a dear friend recently wrote, “what a privilege it was to have been a Student of Life according to Bo”. This planet was lucky to have had him for 38 years, and he will be missed beyond time and space. The family would like to thank Carilion Hospice for the compassionate care they provided Bo at the end of his life. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family requests donations to the Arc of the New River Valley, PO Box 11204, Blacksburg, VA 24062 (thearcnrv.org) or Saint Francis Service Dogs, PO Box 19538, Roanoke, VA 244019 (saintfrancisdogs.org). There will be a service celebrating Bo’s life at 6 PM on Wednesday, September 3, at the McCoy Funeral Home chapel. The family will welcome friends before the service at McCoy Funeral Home from 5-6 PM.
