Harvey Leonard Holland, age 92 of Glade Hill, VA passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023. He was born June 28, 1930 to the late Peter Lewis and Flossie Altice Holland. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers; Everett, Claude and infant brother Alvin Lewis Holland, brother-in-law; Clegard Dillon, sisters-in-law; Marjorie Holland and Ann Holland, niece; Cathy Dillon, friend Jami Simpkins and special nephew; Charles Bollings. Surviving are his brothers; Perry Holland and Walter Holland, sister; Ruby Dillon all of Glade Hill, nephews; Keith Holland (Lisa), Melvin Holland, Everett Dillon (Lisa), Alfred Dillon (Sharon), nieces; Carolyn Bollings, Cynthia Templin (Harvey), Donna Wright (Larry) and special friends Todd and Rhonda Crook. Harvey served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a jeep driver from February 8, 1952-January 14, 1954 when he was Honorably discharged. After his service was finished, he spent the next 69 years living on the Holland Family Farm. During that time he made his living cutting and selling wood, carpentry work and farming tobacco. He later started his own business of hauling gravel. He enjoyed building trains and guns. He spent his leisurely time sitting on the front porch or by the wood stove with his cats. A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, February 2, 2023 at the Holland Family Cemetery with Rev. Denver Turner officiating. His family will receive friends prior to the service at the graveside from 1:30-2:00 p.m. Pallbearers are Keith Holland, Melvin Holland, Brandon Chitwood, Ryan Bollings, Nick Bollings, Everett Dillon and Todd Crook. Harvey’s family would like to thank The Carrington Place, Salem VA and Amedisys Hospice (Debra) for the wonderful care he received during his illness. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount, Va.
