Harvey William Bowman

Harvey William Bowman, also known as “Red”, 84, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Sovah Health – Martinsville. He was born on March 23, 1941, in McDowell County, West Virginia to the late Davis Estel Bowman and Rosa Mae Bowman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Jane Bowman; brothers, Robert Bowman and Irvin Bowman, and his sister, Roxie Marrs.

Harvey retired after many years of dedicated service with Stanley Furniture. He enjoyed restoring old antique cars—especially Chevrolets—and had a love for woodworking. He could often be found sitting on the carport with a cup of coffee, sharing stories, and enjoying the company of family and friends. Some of his favorite memories and conversations centered around his beloved birthplace, West Virginia.

He is survived by his son, Norman Bowman; two grandsons, Matthew Bowman and Jonathan Bowman; three brothers, Charles Bowman, Freddy Bowman (Shirley), and Stewart Bowman (Brenda); sister, Lucy Blevins and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 12:00 noon, at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Freddie Bonds, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
