Hazel Riddle Wells

Hazel Riddle Wells, age 93, of Martinsville, Virginia passed away on November 13, 2025, at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina.

She was born in Martinsville, on October 27, 1932, to the late Leonard Elmore Riddle and Beulah Eanes Riddle. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by two brothers, Landon "Buck" Riddle and Lewis Riddle; and a sister, Belva Turner.

Left to cherish her memory are two devoted daughters, Susan Wilson and her husband, Bob; and Melody Wells. She also leaves behind two treasured granddaughters, Lindsay van Wijgerden and her husband, Gijs; and Brittney Dillon and her husband, Chris; along with four wonderful great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy: Waverly and Ellis van Wijgerden, and Mary Carson and Beau Dillon; her sister, Margaret Cassell, and all the friends and colleagues whose lives she touched.

Hazel gave over four decades of dedicated service to the City of Martinsville before retiring as the Finance Supervisor. While her professional life was impressive, her heart truly belonged to her family and her quiet pleasures, like being an avid baseball fan and spending hours immersed in numerous challenging jigsaw puzzles.

The family invites friends to gather for a visitation at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025, followed immediately by a memorial service celebrating Hazel's life at 2:00 p.m. Both the visitation and service will be held at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, located at 109 Broad Street, Martinsville, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in memory of Hazel to the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd, Dobson, NC 27017, in gratitude for the compassionate care she received there.
