Helen Mundy Scruggs

Helen Mundy Scruggs, age 99 of Chatham, Virginia passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Sovah Health in Danville, Virginia. She was born October 27, 1924 in Chatham, Virginia to the late Hilah C. Compton Mundy and the late Thomas C. Mundy. She was married to the late Marvin Burch Scruggs.

Ms. Scruggs was a member of Chatham Baptist Church and was elementary school teacher for Pittsylvania County for 17 years.

She is survived by five nieces, Joy Pascoe (Gary), Martha Ann Newberry (Bill), Katie McPherson, Nancy Stansbery, and Mary Welsh; her devoted caregiver for the last thirteen years, Christine Hamm, and her devoted friends, Vivian Royster, Vicky King, and Ella Robertson.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was also predeceased by one sister, Frances Mundy Welsh; and one brother, Charles L. Mundy.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, 2:00 p.m. at Chatham Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
