Helen “Royce” Rogers Cameron
Helen “Royce” Rogers Cameron passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, after a lengthy illness. She was 91.
She was born on Dec. 6, 1934, in Vaiden, Mississippi, where she grew up on the family farm. She was the daughter of the late Jamie and Grace Rogers.
She attended the University of Southern Mississippi and once served as Miss Carroll County.
She was married for 48 years to the late Charles Edward “Bubba” Cameron. The family moved to Bristol, Virginia, in 1975.
After being a stay-at-home mother for years, she completed courses at the Tennessee Technical School in Bristol and served as a medical records clerk and then the tumor registrar for Bristol Memorial Hospital. She also worked as a substitute teacher.
After they retired, the Camerons most loved to travel and especially enjoyed cruises and trips to England, Italy, Mexico, and Hawaii. In the last years of her husband’s life, they spent the winter months in Florida.
Mrs. Cameron, who moved to Bristol, Tennessee in 2018, was a southern lady, but she was also spunky and feisty.
Above all else, she was a beloved, warm, and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was devoted to her family.
In addition to her loved ones, Mrs. Cameron most loved God, her church of many years, St. Luke Methodist in Bristol, Virginia, her country, and she was a long and loyal fan of the University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide football team.
She is survived by her son, Mike Cameron, and his wife, Angie, of Piney Flats; daughter, Susan Cameron, of Bristol, Virginia; and twin sons, Ronald Cameron, of Bristol, Virginia, and Donald Cameron, of Bristol, Tennessee.
She had six precious granddaughters, Sharon Cameron, of Piney Flats; Amanda Cameron Nichols, of Piney Flats; Katie Cameron-Martinez, of Clarksville, Tennessee; Abby Cameron Stone, of Johnson City, Tennessee; Alli Cameron, of Johnson City; and Andi Cameron, of Bristol, Tennessee.
She also had two special great-grandchildren, Cameron and Emerson Stone.
Mrs. Cameron is also survived by her sister, Diane Rogers Grubbs, of Madison, Mississippi, with whom she was especially close.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home, 2223 Volunteer Parkway in Bristol, Tennessee.
Mrs. Cameron will be laid to rest with her husband at the National Cemetery at Mountain Home, where there will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 9. The Rev. John Roe, the pastor at St. Luke, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to St. Luke Methodist Church, 105 North St., Bristol, VA, 24201.
