Helen Stinespring
Helen Floretta Sams Stinespring, age 87, of 1510 West Virginia Avenue, Dunbar, West Virginia died on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, West Virginia.
Helen was born on March 6, 1938 in Bath County, Virginia to the late Floyd and Lucy Floretta Schaffer Sams. She was a homemaker throughout her life and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Millboro. She enjoyed cooking, and loved visiting the Amish Country and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Harrington “Boots” Stinespring; a sister, Betty Hodge; and four brothers, June Sams, Johnny Sams, Michael “Kitty” Sams, and Delmas Sams.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Tawney (John) of North Ridgeville, OH and Rhonda Hartwell (Brian) of South Charleston, WV; a son, Rodney Stinespring (fiancée, Faith Poole) of Millboro; three sisters, Lottie Tolbert of Dunbar, WV, and Shirley Bumgarner (Phil) of North Carolina and Diane Hodge (Rick) of Sterling; four brothers, Buddy Sams (Donna) of Clifton Forge, Dewey Sams (Bev) of Winchester, David Sams of South Carolina, and Sammy Sams of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Laken Stinespring (fiancé, Shane Pry), Alayna Stinespring, Ashley Tawney (Matt Graham), and Shawn Tawney; one great grandchild, Paisley Pry; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Billy Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Millboro. The family will visit with friends on Monday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
