Howard William Holland

November 8, 1939 - February 1, 2025

Howard William Holland, 85, of Lynchburg, took Jesus by the hand on February 1, 2025. Born November 8, 1939 in Russell County, Va., he was the son of Mary Rachel Gilbert and William Balford Holland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Stella Slaughter, Lucille Bland, Helen Wilson, and Ruby Gray.

Howard is survived by his wife, Della Holland; his son, Greg Holland (Michelle); daughter, Cheri Brown (Doug); and their mother Carolyn Hall; “his girls”, Angelia Page (Pete) and Jennifer Powers (Adam); grandchildren, Tristan Holland (Michele), Brandon Holland (Cassie), Lindsay McDonald (Hayden), Carter Brown (Cassie), Hailey Brown, Indya Sadler (Lennon), Ethan Page, Natalee and Jack Powers and their father Brian, Ashley Marsh (Zach), Emily Faith, Jonathan Dempsey; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Will, Tristan Jr., Maddie, Grayson, Lawson, Harrison; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved fur babies, Buttercup and Suzy.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army Signal Corps. Achieving rank of SP5 (E-5), he was stationed in Tobyhanna, PA. as a Cryptographic Technician; being honorably discharged in 1965. During his service, he earned many accolades, including expert marksmanship. Howard thrived on projects of all sorts; everything from automotive to construction. His motto of “if duct tape doesn’t fix it, a hammer will” will forever resonate with his family. He loved strolling car shows with Greg, Randall, Brandon, Ethan, Pete and all his car buddies admiring antique and classic cars. As an avid outdoorsman, Howard enjoyed camping and always invited his family to join in his many adventures. He never met a stranger, enjoying conversations about cars, gadgets and politics.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the staff at Autumn Care in Altavista for their exceptional care and genuine concern.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 6, 2025, 11:00 AM, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Aaron Blaine officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and other times at the residence. Please drive your classic car, if you are blessed enough to have one!
