Hugh Donald Bruce

Hugh Donald Bruce Jr. (aka “Sonny” and “Poppi”), 79, of Danville, VA passed peacefully at home on September 27, 2025 after a quick battle with cancer. He was born on March 23, 1946, in Concord, NC. Up until his retirement in 2012, Don’s working career was in automatic fire prevention. He was the co-owner of Fire Sprinkler, LTD until his death. On July 22, 1967, he married Theresa Ewing Bruce and was married for 58 years.

Don was a founding member of Full Gospel Fellowship Church. He served as a deacon, finance committee member and media staff during his long-standing membership at White Oak Worship Center. His favorite place was Smith Mountain Lake and loved spending the weekends with his family making memories. His other love was mowing grass. You would see some of his biggest smiles while he was on his walker lawn mower and when he received compliments on his perfectly green grass.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Ewing Bruce of the residence; daughter, Michelle Sizer, of Raleigh, NC daughter, Lindsey Davis, son-in-law, Jamie Davis and two granddaughters, Tensley Davis and Emmie Davis, all of Dry Fork, VA; brother, Jerry Bruce and wife, Fran, of Michigan.

Mr. Bruce was predeceased by his father, Donald Hugh Bruce Sr.; mother, Jacqueline Starnes Bruce; and brother, Michael Wayne Bruce.

Family night will be at White Oak Worship Center on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at White Oak Worship Center on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Roger Ewing, Dr. Shelia Isom and Pastor Kevin Woodward officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Danville Memorial Gardens in Danville, VA. The family will receive friends and family at the residence, 700 Harper Road, Dry Fork, VA.
