Ione Callender
Ione Priscilla Callender, age 75, formerly of 42 Old Verge Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia died on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Calyx Senior Living in Durham, North Carolina.
Ione was born on September 8, 1950 to the late Joshua L. Callender and Louise Estherlene Johnson Sorrell. She worked in the banking industry for many years, retiring as Branch Manager of First Citizen Bank in Clifton Forge. Ione was a member of First Baptist Church where she served as treasurer. She enjoyed grilling out and was known for her woodburning and carving craftsmanship. She was a long time, avid Dallas Cowboys NFL fan.
In addition to her parents, Ione was preceded in death by her daughter, Jada Celeste Callender; five brothers and sisters, Yvonne C. DuBose, Roland L. Callender, Ronald Callender, Stanley L. Callender, Sandra M. Callender; step father, James F. Sorrell; and a nephew, DeAnte J. McQuaig.
She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Shanti Callender, Lacy DuBose, Yisteen DuBose, Stanley Callender, Jr., Carlos Callender, Candese Callender, and Chaquetta Callender; a great niece, Saniya Callender; a great nephew, Bryson Beatty; a great great niece, Maliya McQuaig; extended cousins, Charles Oliver, Natalie Murphy and Frederick C. Fountain, Jr.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Stephanie and Jason Hepler, Wanda Davis, Ettrula Moore, the First Baptist Church family, the staff of Calyx Living Center, and Curtis L. Beatty, Jr. for their unwavering support.
A funeral service will be held in her honor on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, VA with Reverend Pam Marshall officiating and Reverend Dr. Roslyn C. Thomas as eulogist. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be Lacy DuBose, Carlos Callender, Curtis Beatty, Jason Hepler, Gary Waddell, and Curtis Jefferson, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 PM until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
