Ira Leon Pugh
Ira Leon Pugh of Glade Hill laid down his tools and put up his banjo for the final time on Saturday, December 28 2024. He was 77 years old, born on September 5, 1947 at his family home in Redwood. Leon was the husband of Janet for 57 years and the father of Stephen and Lori. His life was simple - playing music with friends and helping anyone he could with his various skills. Leon proudly served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam. After his military service he worked for his uncle Marlen Davis before beginning a lifelong career in plumbing, electrical and HVAC. His passing has shown his impact by the outpouring of support from family and friends. Leon is now with his father Ira and mother Mildred as well as other beloved family members who have left this Earth. Leon leaves behind his wife Janet; son, Stephen; and daughter, Lori; daughter-in-law, Lena Defibaugh and her son Bryson; sisters, Susan Goodwin and Bonnie Murdock; sisters-in-law, Patsy Wingfield and Karen Young; and brothers-in-law, Claude Goodwin and Donald (Tank) Mabry; nieces, Melissa Rhodes, Andrea Stancil, and Sarah Saar; nephews, C.J. Goodwin and Jimmy Murdock; many special cousins and musical friends. The family will accept visitors Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Flora Funeral Service from 5 to 7 P.M. The funeral will be Friday, January 3, 2025 at 11 A.M. at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
