Irene Eanes Garrett
Irene Eanes Garrett, age 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior while a resident of Roman Eagle Health and Rehabilitation, Danville, VA on June 13, 2024. She was born on December 5, 1940, in North Carolina to the late Eugene and Virgie Adkins Eanes. She was married to the late Charles Medwick Garrett.
Irene worked in the medical profession all her adult life. She attained her Registered Nurse license and worked at the Orthopedic Clinic in Danville and later she worked at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute, Danville for many years. She retired from her position as Head Nurse from Southern Virginia. Irene was a member of North Danville Church of Christ.
Leaving to cherish her memory are her daughters, Janice Garrett and Cynthia Garrett Artis, both of Danville; brothers, Eugene Eanes (Wilma), Otis Eanes (Karen), all of Reidsville NC, Arnett Eanes (Ruth) of Stoneville, NC and Lawrence Eanes (Vanessa) of Warner Robbins, Georgia. Her surviving sisters-in-law include Mary Ruth Eanes of Savanna, GA and Frances Eanes of New Bern, North Carolina, as well as her grandchildren, Alan Garrett (Stephanie), Corey Garrett, Holden Artis, Logan Artis (fiancé Ryan Chilton) and great-grandchildren, Alexander Garrett, Gabriel Garrett, and Elowyn Ruth Artis. In addition, she leaves behind a devoted friend and caregiver, Irmi Messick.
Irene was predeceased by a son, Doug Garrett, sisters, Barbara Eanes and Doris Finney, and brothers, Clarence Eanes and Lewis Eanes.
Funeral services will be held at Norris Funeral Services, West End Chapel, Danville on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM, officiated by Minister Hershel Stone. A visitation of friends will take place one hour prior to the funeral service, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, also at Norris Funeral Services, West End Chapel. Following the funeral service, interment will take place at Danville Memorial Gardens, Danville. At other times, the family will receive guests at 446 Brightwell Drive, Danville, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to North Danville Church of Christ, 519 Iris Lane, Danville, VA or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
