Irene Martin

Irene Martin, 94, of Axton, Virginia, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024. She was born October 17, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to the late Plais Yarbrough and Irene Williams Yarbrough.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Bertha Reynolds, Elizabeth Price, Annie Clark, and Louise Motley; brothers, Robert Yarbrough, Edward Yarbrough, Jack Yarbrough, William Yarbrough, and Monroe Yarbrough; grandson, Vincent Giles; and one great great grandchild.

Irene was a member of Christs Temple United Holy Church and was a dedicated employee at Tultex as a machine operator for more than twenty-seven years. In her free time, you could find Irene taking walks and shopping. Irene also enjoyed singing, and planting flowers.

She is survived by daughters, Bertha Martin, Catherine Martin, Gayrene Martin, Teresa Martin (Leon), and Denise Martin; sons, James Martin, Joseph Martin, Ivory Martin, Timothy Martin, and Patrick Martin; sister, Mildred Clement (William); sisters-in-law, Ruth Yarbrough, and Irene Yarbrough; twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

The funeral will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Christs Temple United Holy located at 2867 Martin Drive, Axton, VA 24054, with Elder Leonard Thompson officiating, and Elder G. J. Carter as Eulogist. Burial will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
