Iris Harvey Atkinson

Iris Harvey Atkinson, 96, passed away on July 6, 2025. She lived on Union Hall School Road, Chatham, VA. She was raised and lived her entire life in the Swansonville Community. Iris was a member of the Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was born on September 21, 1928. She was a daughter of Henry G. Harvey and Mary Boaze Harvey. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Mr. S.D. Atkinson Jr.; a son; Stephen Atkinson; three sisters and three brothers, and a twin sister.

Mrs. Atkinson is survived by her two sons; Donald Atkinson of Richmond, VA and J.R. Atkinson Sr. of Danville, VA; one daughter; Annette K. Atkinson of Mechanicsville, VA; eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; and daughter in law; Angeles Atkinson.

Iris was a devoted Wife and Mother. She created a home filled with love and laughter. She was a strong willed woman who lived a good life. Iris always believed in doing what was right. Her family was of the upmost importance to her and helping them anyway she could made her very happy. She was very proud of her children and their accomplishments.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund, 16300 Mt. Cross Road, Dry Fork, VA 24549.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 11:00am at Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church, 16300 Mt. Cross Road, Dry Fork, VA 24549, with Pastor Mike Hearp officiating. Interment will be private. A visitation will be held prior to the service on the same day from 10-11:00am, also at Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church.
