Iris Miles Watts
Iris Miles Watts, 79, of Lynchburg passed away Friday, May 23, 2025 surrounded by those she held dear. She was the daughter of the late Emory Martin Miles and Katherine Wright Miles.
Born on January 24, 1946, Iris was a spirited soul—full of sass, strength, and an unwavering sense of independence. She had a way of making her intentions known and a determination that ensured they became reality. Beneath that strong will, however, was a heart of gold. Iris was one of the kindest, most generous people you could ever hope to meet, with a creative spark that seemed to touch everything she did.
Always ready to lend a hand, Iris found joy in hard work and poured her energy into home improvement projects and crafting. She dedicated over 20 years of her life to the Grand Piano Company, a place where her talents and work ethic shone. She also had a special love for collecting angel figurines—small symbols of the gentleness and grace she carried within herself.
While she valued her independence deeply, Iris had a tender place in her heart for her beloved dogs, who brought her endless joy. Yet, nothing compared to the love she held for her family. They were her world, and she gave her love freely and fiercely.
Iris touched many lives with her warmth, strength, and generosity. She will be missed beyond words by all who had the honor of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, Iris was preceded in passing by her loving husband Benjamin “Benny” Clark Watts; her daughter-in-law Tracy Watts; and siblings Garland Miles, Helen Wiley, Raymond miles, Larry Miles, and Patricia Wilson.
Those left to cherish Iris’ memory include her children Nickie W. Gentry and her husband Garland (Glen), Benjamin C Watts II; her grandchildren Courtney Smith and her husband Stephen, Caleigh Gentry, Matthew Watts, Emily Watts; her great-granddaughter Bennie Sophia Smith; and her siblings Thomas Miles, George Mace and his wife Jane, and Nancy Graham.
A celebration of Iris’ life will be held on Wednesday, May 28, at 11am at Whitten Timberlake Chapel officiated by Pastor Rick Rasberry. The family will receive friends the night prior from 6-8pm at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
