Iris Oliva Napper Hairston

Iris Oliva Napper Hairston, 81, of Collinsville, Virginia, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Sovah Health – Martinsville. She was born on July 13, 1943, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Steve Napper and Lillie Bell Napper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Walker Hairston, and one grandson, Eric Hairston.

She retired as an aide from Hairston Home for Adults. Iris enjoyed visiting local nursing homes and hospitals, bringing hope to others and praying with them before she left. She was a woman of faith and loved reading her Bible.

Iris is survived by her six sons: Edward Hairston (Barbara), Cleon Hairston (Tonya), Anthony Douglas Hairston (Tabitha), Marlon Hairston (Sherry), Philip Hairston (Tracey), and Byron Hairston; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister, Myrtle Martin; and a host of other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Carver Memorial Gardens, with Minister Anthony Hairston officiating
