Irvin "Rooster" Clayton Wright

August 30, 1954 - March 27, 2025

Irvin “Rooster” Clayton Wright, 70, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025. He was born August 30, 1954, in Stuart, Virginia, to the late Warren Harding Wright and Elsie Foley Wood.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sister, Faye T. Rorrer; brothers, J.W. Wright, Danny Wright, Ronnie Wright, and Calvin Wright.

Rooster spent most of his life working in construction, dedicating himself to hard work and craftsmanship. A true country boy at heart, he found joy in the great outdoors, whether he was fishing, or camping. Rooster enjoyed playing cards, especially poker; he was known as the “Poker King”, a love he shared with his father. His beloved dog, Sheba, held a special place in his heart, and he cherished the companionship she provided. Rooster had a deep love for NASCAR and wrestling, but more than anything he loved making people laugh. A natural prankster, he had a fun-loving spirit and huge heart that touched everyone around them. He was a long-time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Bassett, Virginia, where he enjoyed singing, whether at home, church or the club. Above all, Rooster loved his family dearly.

He is survived by his sons, Jason Wright and Hank Toby James Wright; sister, Pam G. Howell (Kenneth), of Hurt, Virginia; brother, Michael G Harrison (Lisa), of Lynchburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Victoria Wright, Gaberial Marie Wright, and Caleb Odell; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The Funeral will be held Friday, April 4, 2025, at 3:00 PM, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Brother Kenneth Howell officiating.
