Irvin Wendell Crump
Irvin Wendell Crump of Appomattox, Virginia
March 1, 1935 - June 22, 2023
Congratulations to Irvin Wendell Crump, 88, who moved into a brand-new home on June 22, 2023.
Born on March 1, 1935, in Chesterfield County, he was the son of the late John B. and Rosie S. Crump of Midlothian, VA.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Peggy of 57 ½ years, and two brothers, Laurence Crump of Lakeville, MA, and C. Curtis Crump of Amherst all of whom joined together to plan a joyous “welcome home” party for him.
He is survived by three daughters, Debi Scott and husband, Curtis of Powhatan, Darlene McCaffrey and husband, Kevin of Richmond, and Cindy Williamson of Appomattox; a brother, Owen “Butch” of Powhatan, sister-in-law, Carolyn of Amherst; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; too many nieces and nephews to count, and a host of great loyal friends, all of whom he hopes to unite with at a later date.
Irvin worked in construction for 50 years installing ceramic tile, marble, and granite in buildings and ships from Lakeville, MA to Ashville, NC and throughout the entire state of VA, from mountains to ocean. He worked for H.E. Satterwhite, Inc. for over 40 of those, and often said he was the best boss in the world.
Read my obituary with a smile in your heart, because from this world I’m glad to depart. At last, my lonely heart is free, ‘cause where Peggy is, will heaven be for me.
Written by Irvin himself with his unique flair. The family would like to thank Diann Pickett and Wanda Dandridge from Centra Hospice for taking such wonderful care of him. Irvin, you will be missed greatly.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Monday, June 26, 2023, at Elon Baptist Church with Pastors David Sexton, Greg McCormick, and Steve Tyree officiating.
The family will receive friends in the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to God’s Pit Crew, 2499 North Main Street, Danville, VA 24540.
