Irvin Williams Gibson
Irvin Williams Gibson, Jr., 76, of Gainesville, GA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, while a patient of Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg, VA. He was born in Leaksville, NC to the late Irvin Williams Gibson, Sr. and the late Myrna Robertson Gibson on September 7, 1947.
Mr. Gibson was an Elder and Sunday School Teacher at Lanier Christian Church in Gainesville, GA. He attended Roanoke Bible College in Elizabeth City, NC for four years and graduated as an ordained minister. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Sales Rep with Dollar Auto Parts. His favorite pastimes included rebuilding old muscle cars.
Survivors include a son, Justin Kennedy, sisters, Susan G. Kepley (Charles), Ruthie G. Reynolds (Don), Deborah Heath, and Myrna Cannon (Ronald). Surviving brothers include Ronald Gibson (Sherry), Timothy Paul Gibson, Kenny Wayne Gibson (Kelly), and Mark Anthony Gibson (Mary Sue). Mr. Gibson is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Harry Oakes (Sue), and family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gibson was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Montie Wayne Heath.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA with Ronnie Gibson and Harry Oakes officiating. Interment will follow at Dame Memorial Cemetery, Irish Road, Chatham, VA. A visitation will be held before the funeral service, from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, also at the Mt. Hermon Chapel of Norris Funeral Services. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Deborah Gibson Heath.
