Iva (Jane) Hayes Alderson
Iva (Jean) Hayes Alderson, 87, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on December 24, 1937 to the late Mozelle Miller Hayes and the late Ollie Roosevelt Hayes. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Mr. Douglas Tyrone Alderson.
Jean was a devout follower of Christ, and was a long time member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church and served faithfully for many years with the “come and dine crew”. She worked for many years as a LPN at Danville Memorial Hospital previous to her retirement. Jean had a special love for fishing and loved Smith Mountain Lake.
Jean is survived by two daughters; Connie Sigmon Allman (Dale) and Penny Purnell (Randy) both of Penhook, VA; daughter in law Wendy Alderson of Danville, VA; six grandchildren; Carrie Rogers (Bill), D.W. Shelton (Jo Linda), Sam Shelton, Megan Meeks (Brian), Russell Purnell, and Dallen Alderson (Savannah); wife of her grandson; Carrie “Billy” Hyler; eleven great grandchildren; Tyler, Haley, Rebecca, A.J., Ryan, Peyton, Paisley, Bentley, Shae, Nash, and Spencer; and five great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was predeceased by a son; Douglas “D.J.” Tyrone Alderson II, a brother; Bobby Lee Hayes; and a grandson; William Hyler III (Billy).
The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Faith Memorial Baptist Church building fund at 7450 Martinsville Highway, Danville, VA 24541.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 2:00pm at Faith Memorial Baptist Church, 7450 Martinsville Highway, Danville, VA 24541 with Pastors Daniel Lackey, Austin Merricks, and Seth Lackey officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025 from 5-7:00pm at Norris West End Chapel, Danville, VA.
