September 26, 1953 - January 26, 2025

Jacqueline "Jackie" Young Proffitt, age 71, of Salem, VA, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025. Born on September 26, 1953, in Roanoke, Virginia, she was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. Jackie lived her life as a testament to the values of faith, selflessness and love.

Jackie was the beloved daughter of the late Harry Wilson Young and Kathleen McDaniel Young. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Darrell Proffitt; her brother, Gary Wilson Young; sister in law, Becky Johnson Young and her beloved parents. Jackie's spirit is carried on by her brother, Neil Young; nieces, Samantha Lovern and her husband Matt, Shae Young and Will Scott; nephew, Colin Young; great-nieces, Jordyn Sowers and Emeri Lovern, and her great-nephew, Kohen Lovern. She will also be fondly remembered by her mother-in-law, Millie Proffitt, her siblings-in-law, Linda Proffitt, Regina Huffman, Steve Proffitt, and Malinda Highfill, and her lifelong best friends, Sheron Crawford and Elsie Gladden. She was also blessed to have some the best and most supportive neighbors and valued these relationships greatly.

Jackie’s life was a reflection of her strong Christian faith, which she nurtured and shared with everyone she met. One of Jackie’s favorite verses: "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live." (John 11:25 ). Her faith-filled life was a source of strength and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was a woman of many interests but mostly enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: spending time with friends, gardening, vacationing to OBX and spending time with her dog, Sophie. Jackie’s selfless nature was evident in the way she cared for and supported her family and friends.

Jackie's legacy is one of kindness, generosity and a deep commitment to her family and close friends. She was a constant source of support, always putting others before herself. Her ability to love unconditionally and her unwavering faith in the Lord were the hallmarks of her character. The world is a better place because of Jackie. She was a bright light in the lives of many, and her love will continue to shine in those who loved her most.

As we remember Jackie, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the incredible impact she made during her time with us. Her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her presence will forever be felt. Though she has left us here on earth, the memories she created, and the time spent with one another will forever be cherished and will continue to bring comfort and joy to those who loved her. Her journey on earth has ended, but her eternity in Heaven has only just begun.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Fellowship Community Church, Salem Campus. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ken Nienke officiating.
