Jacqueline Scales

January 20, 1962 - March 14, 2024

Jacqueline Scales, 62, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2024. She was born January 20, 1962, in Henry County, to the late Lafartane Scales and Medarine Jones Scales.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, James and Annie V. Jones, and paternal grandmother, Edith Scales.

At an early age, Jacqueline grew up attending Mayo Missionary Baptist Church and later relocating to Rock Ridge Missionary Baptist church. In May 2020, she found solace at First Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. She participated in the Sanctuary Gospel Choir; she was involved in the Christian Education Ministry and the Gallilee Bible Class and Senior Ministry. Jackie, as many called her, loved her church and her family. She was a 1980 graduate of Drewry Mason High School and a 1986 graduate of Ferrum College. She taught in the Franklin County school system for twenty-three years when she retired. The children were her heart, she loved showing them how to be creative and the fun in learning.

She was a genuine person who took pride in herself and her plants. Jacqueline was a vibrant person who loved to laugh and have others laughing along. If you were having a bad day, look for Jackie. That smile and being real was all you needed. She loved her grandbabies whom she affectionately called “The Minnesota Wrecking Crew”.

She is survived by daughters, Memoree Briana Scales of Martinsville, Virginia, and Kristen Michaela Scales of Ridgeway, Virginia; sister, Laura Scales of Ridgeway, Virginia; brother, Scotty Scales of Martinsville; grandchildren, Isaiah Scales, Arrianna Scales, and London Scales; niece, Erica Perkins-Redd; nephews, Shawn Scales, and Justin Scales; and best friend Rhonda Brown of Danbury, North Carolina.

The funeral will be Tuesday, March 18, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Mayo Missionary Baptist Church with Reverand John Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Mayo Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be one half hour prior to service.
