James A. McCoy

James A. McCoy, 76, of Stuart, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born September 30, 1946, in Hurley, Virginia, to the late Ira McCoy and Dicey Dales McCoy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Arnold Matney; sisters, Rosie Matney and Josephine Lester; brothers, Lester McCoy and Ira McCoy, Jr.; and twins, Delcie and L. C. McCoy; great-grandson, Ronan McCoy; and Jerry Walker who was like a son.He had been employed as a coal miner for 30 years and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. He devoted much of his time towards working on vehicles and lawnmowers; and loved his family and others. He was a very giving man.James is survived by his wife, Ivory McCoy; daughters, Patricia (Pat) McCoy and Phyllis McCoy; sisters, Geraldine Whitt (Tracy) and Virginia Lester (Manuel-deceased); grandchildren, Nicholas McPeak, Tiffany McCoy, and Kevin Bokman; and great-grandchildren, Oliver McPeak, Thea McPeak, Princeton McCoy, Anthony Davis, Jr., Sophiya Davis, Christyn Spencer, Kevin Bokman, II and Kamdyn Bokman, and Violet James McCoy who is due in July; as well as several friends and neighbors, especially Earl Penn and Billy Burgart.The funeral will be Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 1:00 PM, at Only Way Church of Christ, 349 Goblintown Road, Stuart, Virginia, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Elder David Pruitt and Elder Dale Cabiness. Burial will follow at the Penn Family Cemetery.Wright Funeral Service and Crematory is serving the family.
