James "Buddy" Martin Campbell
James Martin “Buddy” Campbell, 90, of 131 Campbell Road, Penhook, VA, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023 peacefully surrounded by family at his home. Born November 28, 1932, son of the late Garnett Campbell and Bertha Cooper Campbell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Hildred Quinn and Maxey Walker, and grandson, Cole Grindstaff.Buddy is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty Ann Bondurant Campbell, one sister, Cecile Young (RL), two sons, Darryl Campbell (Penny) and Gary Campbell (Sandy), two daughters, Cindy McAllister (Gareth) and Debra Berry (Vernon), six grandchildren, Danielle White (Chris), Lindsey Grow (McLane), Tyler McAllister (Kelly), Dylan McAllister (Turner), Alex Berry (Carina), and Connor Berry (Madison), and seven great grandchildren, Campbell, Cullen, Levi, Isla, Logan, Elye, and Grayson.Buddy was a member of Forest Hill Christian Church and retired from DuPont in Martinsville after 30 years of service. He served in the United States Army and was a member of VFW and Snow Creek Masonic Lodge. Buddy was born and raised on a farm in the Sago Community of Franklin County, VA. He dedicated his life to growing tobacco and raising beef cattle. He took great pride in his work and passed on his passion to his family, instilling in them the same love and respect he had for the land.Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2023. Interment will follow in the Campbell family cemetery.His family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Monday at Flora Funeral Service and other times at the family home.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Snow Creek Rescue Squad at 704 Snow Creek Road, Penhook, VA 24137.
