James Carroll Martin

September 30, 1945 - December 24, 2025

James Carroll Martin Sr., of Amherst, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Carroll was born in Amherst, Virginia on September 30, 1945 to the late James Parrish Martin and Janice Campbell Martin. Carroll was married to the love of his life Audrey Jean Martin whom preceded him in death.

Carroll was a kind, loving man that many referred to as “Daddy Carroll” or “Papa Carroll”. Carroll worked as a gifted carpenter for many years and then as a Locksmith at Central Virginia Training Center. He retired from Central Virginia Training Center as a Master Locksmith after more than 30 years of service. He was a lifelong farmer and dedicated cattleman.

Carroll was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia M. Martin (survived by Roger) ; brother-in-law, Joe Martin; sister-in-laws, June Martin and Patricia Martin; Mother-in-law, Gladys T. Martin; sisters, Della Arrington(Charles) and Betty Schaar(Jimmy); special nephew Jay Jay “Peanut” Martin; and his grandchildren, Tristian Martin and Jacob Martin.

He is survived by his son, Reverend James Carroll Martin Jr. (Jan); daughters Jennifer M. Paisley(Bobby) and Vickie Lively(Steve); brother, Leroy Martin(Sandra); sisters, Judy Viar, Genevieve Clements(Pat); grandchildren, Tiffany Campbell(Chris), Daniel Martin(Kaylynne), Megan Campbell(Luc), Nicolette Paisley, Courtney Martin(Nick), Brianna Fassero(Lewis), Christian Paisley, Tara Wilson Martin (Jacob), Loren Grim(Wesley) and Crystal Dollens(Richard); special niece, Melissa Maddox(Jimbo); and great-grandchildren, Grayson, Jonathan, Blakelynne, Kayden, Mason, Jaxon, Raegan, Scarlett, Wyatt, Josie, Alyssa, Raylan, Wren, and Tyler; and London Morris, whom was part of his chosen family.

A visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Driskill Funeral Chapel from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Kingswood Baptist Church in Arrington, Virginia at 11:00 AM. Rev. Dr. James Carroll Martin Jr. and Rev. Dave Peters will be officiating. The family requests that if you want to make a donation in lieu of flowers please consider Kingswood Baptist Church of Arrington.
