James "Crick" Oakley Martin

James “Crick” Oakley Martin, 80, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024. He was born December 19, 1943, to the late Mary Hairston Martin and William Nick Martin.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Stanley Martin; son, Angelo Stace Martin; sisters, Judy Martin and Betty Thomas, and brother, William Henry Martin (Sonny).

James was of the Jehovah Witness Faith and was a dedicated employee of Fieldcrest Mills as a dryer operator for twenty-five years. He enjoyed cooking, as well as fishing and hunting. He loved helping people, and spending time with family. James also loved to talk about the Bible and spread the message of Gods Kingdom.

He is survived by daughter, Paula Draper and husband, Karl; son, Darren Martin and wife, Crystal; granddaughter, Kierra Stockton and husband, Javarron; as well as three great grandchildren.

The memorial service will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 107 Governors Lane, Martinsville, Virginia 24112. The floating visitation will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
