James Edward Lewis

James E. Lewis, Sr., 86, husband of Jane I. Lewis passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025, He was a native of Roanoke and was the son of the late William S. and Kathleen Welch Lewis, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, William Jr., Lanny, Gertrude, Ben, Richard, and Dee Dee.

James was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army after 21 years of devoted service. After the Army he worked for 10 years at Hollins University and then 17 and a half years at the Salem VA Medical Center.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, Jane I. Lewis, he will be missed and remembered by his children, Kathleen I. Lewis and James E. Lewis, Jr.; a grandson, Rishi Zaveri, Jr.; a sister, Lucy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road. There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens with military honors.
