James "Jim" Curtis Boone
James (Jay, Jim) Curtis Boone, 84, of Salem Va. passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024, at his home in Salem Va.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Harry L Boone; his mother, Annie Greer Boone; his wife, Nancy Carroll Boone; sisters, Ruth Altis and Sandy Dunman; brothers, Daniel (Dan) Boone and Harry (Dune) Boone Jr.
He is survived by his sister, Lorna Bragg; and brothers, Roger Boone, William (Bill) Boone, Richard (Dickie) Boone, Charles (Chuck) Boone, and David Boone; sons, Paul and Ryan Boone.; stepson, Daniel (Danny) Payne; stepdaughter, Carroll Courson; and grandchildren, along with numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Jay was proud of his military time in the army, he was honorably discharged in 1966. He then went to work for General Electric and had a 31-year career there. He also did side jobs as an electrician. Jay has always had a love for bluegrass music and a particular fondness for the banjo. He was an accomplished harmonica player and enjoyed playing whenever he got the opportunity. His Christian faith played a huge role in how he lived. He was a proud follower of Jesus Christ and loved to talk about him whenever he had an opportunity. He was a wonderful Father and husband and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 1 until 2 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. Funeral services will begin directly after, starting at 2 p.m., with Pastor Gary Butcher officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park, where military rights will be rendered by the Virginia Army National Guard Honors Team.
