James Cooper “Jimmy” Hancock, 84, of Morning Star Road, Appomattox, died on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Virginia Franklin Hancock.

Born in Lynchburg, VA, on May 20, 1939, he was a son of the late Eula May Tignor and James Cooper Hancock, Sr. He was a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church and retired from General Electric after 38 ½ years of service. Jimmy enjoyed playing Rook, going out to eat, and loved playing and watching his girls play softball.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Tim Willis of Appomattox; a sister, Stella R. Carter; four grandchildren, Ashley O. Coleman and Ryan, Blake O’Brien, Tyler Willis and Bethany, and Trevor Willis; three great-grandchildren, Kenleigh Coleman, Trafton Coleman, and Parker Willis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Wendy Hancock and Kimbra H. O’Brien, and a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Baldwin.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Robinson Funeral Home officiated by Rev. John Kelley. The burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.
