James Michael "Mike" Hartsel

James Michael “Mike” Hartsel, age 72 went to be with our Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2023 in his home in Boones Mill, VA. He was born November 1, 1950 to John S. and Christine C. Hartsel of Franklin County, VA. He was a 1969 graduate of Franklin County High School. Mike is survived by his loving wife, Vicki Plunkett Hartsel who was his high school sweetheart and love of his life. They were married 52 years and had a remarkable compatible bond enjoying and sharing life together. He is also survived by his brother, Joe Hartsel and his wife, Kathy; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He started his career as a draftsman then soon joined Dudley Plumbing, Inc. where he enjoyed working with Bill Dudley, his best friend who preceded him, and later his son, Billy. Mike retired in 2021 after 51 years of service. He loved the Lord and was a member of Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren since 2005. As a man of character and Christian faith, he tried to live life true to his beliefs and values. Mike enjoyed being with family and friends talking about cars, motorcycles, travel, the latest technology, and many interesting things. He will always be missed and remembered by his family and many friends. The family would like to sincerely thank his caregivers who cared for him with kindness and respect and also Carilion Hospice for the excellent care they provided for Mike. Funeral services will be conducted at Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023 with Pastor Greg Broyles officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
