February 7, 1954 - May 26, 2024

JAMES MONROE WARDEN, JR., (Jim, Jimmy, Slim), age 70, of Pearisburg, VA passed away at his home on Sunday, May 26, 2024, after a brave journey with cancer. He was born in Radford to the late James Monroe Warden and Annie Bell Lyons Warden. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary McCoy.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Ramsey Warden; son, Andrew Warden of Lynchburg; daughter Amy Wright Lax (Roy) of Salem; grandson Maverick Warden; brother David Warden (Michelle) of Lynchburg; Brother-in-law, Vernon McCoy; nieces April, Wendy, Sarah, and Amanda; his church family; and many friends.

James grew up with a strong work ethic while working alongside his dad on the family farm, learning to tend cattle, bale hay, and be a good neighbor. He continued to farm throughout his life while working and then retiring from Volvo. He was a self-taught woodturner who created beautiful pieces of art that he enjoyed sharing with others. He was humble, generous, and kind, and enjoyed offering a helping hand wherever needed. He was a man of strong faith inspired by his parents and his church, Morgan’s Chapel UMC.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 4th at 11 AM at Morgan’s Chapel UMC, 6540 New River Road, Radford, VA, with Reverend Rachel Collins officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 - 11 AM prior to the service.  There will be no graveside service.

The family is grateful for the quality of care provided to him by Dr. Joseph Mock, Dr. Christopher Reynolds, and Carilion Hospice during his time of illness.

In lieu of flowers, please consider continuing Jim’s spirit of generosity by sharing an act of service for someone in need, or by offering a memorial donation to Morgan’s Chapel UMC, PO Box 118, New River, VA 24129.
