James Nathan Cardwell

James Nathan Cardwell, 76, of Collinsville, Virginia, passed away Monday, December 18, 2023, at his residence. He was born May 13, 1947 in Montcalm, West Virginia, to the late Grover Cardwell and Beulah Audrey Dickens Cardwell Roberts.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Crabtree; sister-in-law, Effie Cardwell; and brother-in-law, Glenn Crabtree.

He was of the Baptist faith, and had been employed by Penske Truck Leasing for more than 20 years. He was “sneaky”, hard-headed, and witty. He loved fishing, visiting the beach, and tinkering in his garage. He loved his wife and family, and especially his grandson. The sun rose and set in his grandson.

James is survived by his wife, Rachel “Louise” Bowman Cardwell; daughter, Lisa Alley (Mark); son, Wayne Cardwell (Sandra); sister, Diane Gutler; brother, Paul Cardwell; and grandson, Elijah “Eli” Alley.

The Memorial Service will be Friday, December 22, 2023 at 2:00 PM, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel, 1425 Greensboro Road, Martinsville, with Reverend David Deisher officiating.
