James "Richard" Meredith

James “Richard” Meredith, 76 of Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
Richard was born on September 1, 1949, in Roanoke, Va., son of the late William D. and Ethel Marie Altice. He was a past member of Pleasants Masonic Lodge #63, of Roanoke. He was a proud US Army Veteran, serving in the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, during the Vietnam War. He was a hunter by heart, enjoying numerous big game hunting trips throughout the country.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Barry Meredith, and his sister, Doris Marie Turner.
Family remaining to cherish his memory includes his sister, Wanda “Janie” Dillon and her husband, Glen, and numerous close childhood friends, Ronnie, Betty, Bonnie, Larry, and Becky.
A graveside service to honor Richard’s life has been scheduled for Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park, in Salem with Pastor Brian Gordon officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the Virginia Army National Guard.
The family would like to offer their appreciation to several of the nursing staff on 2 east at the Davis & McDaniel Veterans Care Center, for the care given to Richard during his stay, as well as his Visiting Angels.
