James Russell Bryant

James Russell Bryant of Appomattox, Virginia
January 30, 1934 - February 11, 2023

James Russell Bryant, 89, of Appomattox, died Saturday, February 11, 2023, at his residence.  He was the husband of the late Mamie Jamerson Bryant.

Born in Buckingham, January 30, 1934, he was a son of the late Minnie Roberta Burks Bryant and Russell Roy Bryant.  James was a member of Vera Church of God.  He loved the Lord and had a passion for people to be saved especially his family.  James loved to play putt-putt and was a champion player.

He is survived by seven children, James R. Bryant, Jr., and wife, Dorothy, Timothy Ray Bryant and wife, Laura, Carl Lee Bryant and wife, Rochelle, Tammy Bryant Moore and husband, Billy, Shelly Bryant Louk and husband, James, Chad Everette Bryant and wife, Tammy and Derek Wayne Bryant; one brother, Gene Bryant; one sister, Helen Almond; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruby Bryant, Lois Moore, Dorothy Hackett and Naomi Stratton; and two brothers, Daniel Bryant and Oscar Bryant.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Vera Church of God with Pastor Landon Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at his residence.
