James Thornton Gregory

James “Jim” Thornton Gregory died on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. He was born on August 23, 1937.

Jim was born and raised in Bluefield, West Virginia. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and enjoyed a forty-year career with Appalachian Power Co., where he made many friends.

Jim was the son of the late Aubrey and Moody Gregory. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda, after a 57-year marriage. Also preceding his death was a brother, Robert (who died in infancy), as well as his sister, Phyliss, and her husband, Henry Compton.

Surviving Jim are his son, Daniel, wife Tracey, and their family, as well as his sister, Joyce, husband Glenn, and their family. Also surviving (and special to Jim) are Linda’s sisters, Rebecca James and Anna Mae Strafford, and their families.

Others surviving Jim who were very dear to him include his niece, Barbara Buchanan, and his nephew, Keith Buchanan along with his family.

There will be a private memorial service for the family at College Lutheran Church at a later date, conducted by Pastor David Drebes.
