Jane Childress Evans

Edith Jane Childress Evans, 78, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, after an 11-year battle with Lewy Body Dementia.Born in Lynchburg on December 23, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ruby Childress. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene, Belle, and Ann.Jane is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Thomas “Sonny” Evans; three daughters, Kimberly Trent (Rob) of Concord, Rhonda Hunt of Lynchburg, and Andrea Hundley (Paul) of Gretna. Known affectionately as “Grandma” and “GaGa,” she leaves behind six grandchildren: Crystal, Matt, Lizzie, David, Savanna, and Kylee; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Nora Lee Narron; her beloved aunt, Ruth Franklin; and numerous extended family members and friends.Growing up in the Cotton Hill and White Rock Hill neighborhoods of Lynchburg, Jane graduated from E.C. Glass High School. After marrying Sonny in 1964 and while raising their three daughters, she began an 11-year career as a preschool teacher, followed by a successful 24-year career as an insurance agent before retiring. Jane was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church (Timberlake).A service celebrating her life and faith will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Brady Willis officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 2, 2024, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at www.lbda.org.
