Jane Lucado Groton
Jane Lucado Groton, 74, of Salem, VA, went peacefully to be with her Lord on February 18th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born the only daughter with four brothers to Bill and Lila Lucado, she grew up tough and tender. Jane was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and faithfully served as a registered nurse for 28 years at Lewis Gale Medical Center after graduating from Old Dominion University. Throughout Jane's career as an RN, she worked on the Medical Surgical Unit, and the Physical Rehabilitation Unit, and she was awarded many prestigious awards and accolades for her care and dedication to her patients. Jane, upon retirement in 2000, was a volunteer to many missions in Salem and surrounding areas; Mrs. Dorsey's clothes closet, Bethel Baptist food pantry, WMU, The Bradley Free Clinic, and any chance she had to snuggle a baby. Any chance she had to listen to James Taylor as loud as possible, shop for a Louis Vuitton "pocketbook", get her hands in a garden, be with her grandchildren, go to the beach, or drive a sports car, she took it! She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and loved all the lifelong friends she made there. Her caring, fun spirit lives on in the many who love her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry Lucado Jr. and mother, Lila Bowe Lucado, niece, Karen Lucado, brother-in-law, Thomas Barnett, and sister-in-law, Kelley Abate.
Surviving is her loving husband Thomas Ray Groton, her only daughter, Lila Jill Groton, and her beloved grandchildren, Julian Robert Higginbotham (wife, Laura), Ashton Thomas Higginbotham, and Piper Elizabeth Higginbotham. Brothers, William Allen Lucado, John Steven Lucado (partner, Linda Ives), Mark Edward Lucado (wife, Susan), and Bruce Albert Lucado(wife, Teresa); and nieces and nephews, Chad Lucado, Chase Lucado (wife, Megan), Nick Lucado(partner, Marybeth), Taylor Lucado(partner, Keiley), Andy Lucado (wife, Rachel), and Samantha Thomasson (husband, Scott); and a very special sister-in-law, Cornelia Kay Barnett (partner, Charles), and nieces and nephew, Nicole Parsons (fiancé, Doug) and Bryan Barnett (wife, Kelly), and Daria Abate(partner, Jesse).
A memorial service for this beautiful woman will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 15th, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church in Salem.
