Janet Belle Karnes
Janet Belle Karnes, 87, formerly of Shawsville, Va., went to be with the Lord at Commonwealth Senior Living in Hillsville, Va., on Monday, April 21, 2025.
She was a longtime and very involved member of Shawsville CH Church where she led in several ways. Her work ethic was strong as she never sat down whether in or out of the home. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling as well as playing games with the grandkids. Above all, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister who will be greatly missed.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Kenton A. and Agnes Fridley Stone; husband, Jack W. Karnes; siblings, Reginald “Sonny” Stone and Anna Mae Leckliter; brother-in-law, Bobby Karnes; sister-in-law who was like a sister, Sandi Karnes; and nephew, Matt Karnes.
Her surviving family includes her children, Linda Ozminkowski and husband, Jack, Betty Lowe and husband, Mike, and Jackie Howe and husband, Bryan; grandchildren, Crystal Poole, Brandon Hedgepeth, Ashley Ramsey, Michael Lowe Jr., Alexis Lowe, Mathew Clemons Jr., and Derek Howe; great-grandchildren, Jeff, Kaitie, Levi, Kadyn, Rayne, Jack, Hunter, Colin, Miles, Isabella, Jonathan, Raphael, Zeke, Lennox, Isaac, Isaiah, and Michelle; niece, Kim Newman; nephew, Timmy Karnes; and many other special family members.
The family would like to thank the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living for the love and support shown to them during this time.
A period of visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025, in the funeral home’s chapel with Pastor Ed Gallimore officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, Va.
