Jay Michael Bohannon
Jay M. Bohannon, 68 of Danville, Virginia passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025 at SOVAH Health in Danville, Virginia after a ten month decline in health. Jay was born in Washington, DC on January 22, 1957 to the late Kenneth L. Bohannon, Sr. and the late Joan Morton Shively.
He was also predeceased by his stepfather, Norman E. Shively, his half-brother, Kenneth L. Bohannon, Jr., and his beloved cat, “Precious”.
He is survived by his life partner, Ruth Lawrence and her family; his sister, Vivian Suzzanne Bohannon; and his half-sister, Victoria B. Bush. Jay is also survived by five first cousins of Evans and Martinez, GA.
Jay was a graduate of George Washington High School and attended Danville Community College studying electrical electronics. Jay last worked as an engineer at Broadcast Engineering Consultants and also worked for WYPR and WVOV radio as a “DJ” - Chief Engineer/Chief Operator and Public Service Director.
Jay loved music all his life and was known to many friends as “The Music Man” and was fondly known in the music world as “Sugar Bear”. He also enjoyed traveling up and down the east coast and going deep sea fishing at Myrtle Beach with his family and friends. Jay also attended many music concerts.
A graveside service will be held Friday, April 11, 2025, 2:00 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, 318 Robertson Avenue, Danville, Virginia with Pastor Judith Thomas officiating.
