Jean Bowles Caldwell
Mildred “Jean” Bowles Caldwell departed this life January 11. 2026. Shewas born on March 3, 1934 in Giles County to the late John and Eva Bowles. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt whose life was defined by her devotion to family. Family was always at the center of her world, and she took pride in staying connected to those she loved.
Jean expressed her love most often through her hands. She was well known for her cooking, baking, and canning, taking pride in feeding her family and preserving traditions that brought everyone together. She had a creative spirit and a true passion for painting ceramics, and her many sewing projects—completed over the years with patience and care—are lasting reminders of her talent and dedication. Her legacy lives on through the generations she nurtured and the family she held close.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost sixty years, Marvin “Curly” Caldwell. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Betty Spears of Pembroke and Katherine Caldwell of Dublin, three grandchildren Jason Hale (Mandie) of Riner, Amy Lucas (Jeremy) of Forest, and Josh Hale of Floyd, and the great grandchildren she cherished dearly Elijah Lucas, Gavin Hale, Maddie Hale, Kaitlyn Hale, and Harper Hale.
She is also proceed in death by her brothers John Bowles, Armon Bowles, Billy Bowles and Wayne Bowles; and sisters Ellen Snidow, Janet Robertson, Jo Beswick, Phillis Niday and Nancy Falls. She is survived by her brothers Terry Bowles and Bob Bowles (Sharon) and sister Margaret Higginbotham. Left to cherish her memory are also many extended family members who will miss her dearly.
The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Kendall Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be conducted on Friday, January 16, 2025 at 2:00 PM in Kendall Funeral Home with Gary Poff officiating.
