Jean Delong
Jean W. DeLong, 93, of Vinton, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2025, after a short illness. She was the daughter of Charles Strother Williams and Lucy Meredith Williams. She is survived by three sisters, Marie Gray of Mt. Pleasant,Shirley Overacre of Blue Ridge and Doris Sours of Chesterfield. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Thomas DeLong and her brothers, Claude (Jim) Williams. Leon Williams, Eldridge (Bud) Williams, Ronnie Williams and Dennis Williams. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and a special great niece “Boo” Williams and Tristan. Special thank you from the family to Brother Bob Worley for all the visits and prayers. The family would like to express gratitude to Berkshire Vinton and all the Good Samaritan Team.Jean worked at Delong’s Department store in Vinton and later became owner. She loved talking to people and helping them pick out clothes. When she wasn’t working, she was planting flowers at her home or attending church. She liked to cook for her family and have family reunions at her house. She did not have any children of her own, but she loved kids and always had some with her.Arrangements by Lotz Vinton Chapel. The family will receive friends Monday, January 13, 2025, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. Funeral service will be Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 12 Noon with Pastor Tommy Hurt of Blue Ridge Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton.
