Jean Hevener Wade

January 2, 1933 - January 7, 2025

Jean Hevener Wade, 92, of Roanoke, beloved mother, sister, friend, and oma, passed away peacefully at Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Franklin Roosevelt Wade; parents, Sterling and Helen Hevener; brother, Phillip Hevener; and sister, Diana Ryder.

Jean is survived by her son, Scott Wade (Marjorie); daughter, Kristine Wade; grandchildren, Tawny Tanner (Tony), Jennifer Robertson, Gregory Knick, Andrea Newman (Cris), Katrina Knick (Osama) and Whitney Wade; great grandchildren, Derek Matney, Dustin Matney, Selena Newman, Gabriella Newman, Malaneia Waller, Mayli Tanner, Alice Wade-Phillips, and Zen Robertson; adopted son and daughter, Tim and Linda Knick; brother, William Hevener; sister, Linda Kirk; and special thank you to her niece, Karen Kirk, who took wonderful care of her; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins, too numerous to name.

Jean graduated from Covington High School in 1951. She worked several jobs until she met her bestfriend and husband, Frank. After a few years as a homemaker, she returned to school, and in 1973, she graduated and became a Registered Nurse. After one year on Pediatrics, she began her life’s work as a Psychiatric Nurse. She retired from Roanoke Memorial Hospital Psychiatric Center.

She was an avid card player and reader, suspense was her favorite genre but she enjoyed all genres. She loved to paint, providing many cherished paintings to family members over the years. Jean was a loyal Virginia Tech Hokie fan, having football season tickets for almost 45 years.

The family will have a Visitation on Monday, January 13, 2025 from 4:00-6:00pm at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019. The family also will have a Memorial Service at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at College Lutheran Church, 210 South College Ave., Salem, VA 24153.
