Jeanette Louise Davis Stone

Jeanette Louise Davis Stone, 97, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2024, while a resident of Mulberry Creek Nursing & Rehab of Martinsville, VA. She was born in 1926 in Bethesda, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Henry C. Davis and the late Jessie Kathleen Davis. She was married to George Edwin Stone, Sr., who predeceased her in 1960.

Mrs. Stone graduated Alliance High School in Alliance, Ohio in 1944 and her family then moved to Martinsville, VA, where she remained for the majority of her life, aside from a five-year residence in Washington, D.C. while her husband George worked for the Capital Police. After his death, she returned to Martinsville. She retired from Kmart in 1989 and worked before Kmart at both DuPont and Leggett’s department store. Mrs. Stone was a member of First Baptist Church of Martinsville. She was an avid reader, even while a resident of Mulberry Creek. When she was able, she enjoyed walking, bowling, and growing various garden plants and flowers. All her life, she was devoted to animals, and often adopted rescue dogs and cats from animal shelters.

Left to cherish her memory, and to whom she was so devoted, are her son, George Edwin “Ed” Stone, Jr. of Martinsville and a granddaughter, Jesse Taylor Stone of Atlanta, GA. In addition, she is survived by eight nieces and nephews as well as a step-grandson, Blake Hatter. Mrs. Stone was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by two sisters, Susie A. Schermer and Yvonne Davis Gilley.

A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
