Jerry Lee Payne

Jerry Lee Payne, 77, of Fieldale, Virginia, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Sovah Health of Danville. He was born June 23, 1947, in Martinsville, to the late John William Payne and Mary Magdalene Payne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Earles Payne; brothers, John Payne, Maynard Payne, Roger Payne, Ronald Payne, and Daryl Payne.

Jerry taught Sunday School at Tabernacle Baptist Church where he also sang in the choir for many years. He assisted his brother-in-law, Clyde Earles in radio preaching ministry for many years. In his later years, he served as a lay minister at Cornerstone Baptist Church with his wife Jean always by his side. Jerry bravely served the United Sates in the Army Reserve. He cherished outdoor activities like golfing, fishing and creating lasting memories with his family. He also deeply valued the time spent with his friends and extended family, always treasuring those connections.

He is survived by one daughter, Melissa Jones (Ronald); one granddaughter, Sarah Shelton (Dustin); one great grandson, Alec Shelton; and two step grandchildren, Davice Jones and Mason Jones.

The visitation will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel with Reverend Betty Marshall officiating. The funeral will be Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. The burial will be at Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
