Jessie Musgrove

June 5, 1946 - March 15, 2025

On Saturday, March 15, 2025, God sent his angels to take our beloved, Father, Brother, Uncle and Friend, Jessie James Musgrove, 78, home to rest in peace. Jessie was born June 5, 1946, one of 10 children, to the late Charlie, Sr. and Eva Witcher Musgrove, in Sandy Level, VA. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by: his sisters, Susan and Elaine Musgrove and brothers, Charlie, Jr., Freddie, Sr., and George, Sr. Musgrove. Jessie graduated a standout football player from Northside High School in Gretna, VA. Upon graduating from school, he moved to Washington, DC where he married Doris Davis. From this union two daughters were born: Jessica and Jamie Musgrove. Jessie a devoted family man and hard worker, was employed as taxi driver while pursuing a career for nearly four decades at the Madison Hotel, working his way to the highest position as General Manager. He remained in DC after retirement where he continued to share his passion for life with family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling, sports, reading, music and intellectual conversations on history and current affairs. He lived his last days at Autumn Care of Altavista, VA where he spent a lot of time with close family and friends. He will be remembered as a man with strong character and work ethics who helped many families and friends. He had an independent and spirited personality, which was always present and lit up any room. Although Jessie's physical presence will no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing and may we carry forth his legacy of strength and wisdom as we continue our journey. Those left to cherish his memories are his two daughters, Jessica and Jamie; four grandchildren, Jasmyne, Jayda, Justice and Mark Jr.; three brothers, Silas (Muzelle) Musgrove, Tommy (Mary) Musgrove, Sr., and John Musgrove; one sister Ella Musgrove; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2025 with Rev. Henry Eggelston officiating. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
